"Kim! You are amazing!! Garfield is back home!! I found him today!!
I have had Garfield for 13 years, which is more than half of my life. So I was devastated when he got out the other night.
I couldn’t imagine that after growing up with him, that he could just be gone. He’s gotten me through everything from middle school to my first year in the adult world - post college(this year).
After the first night and day of searching I was so defeated and frantic. After sharing lost posts, someone recommended your Lost Cat Finder website.
So I downloaded your book and realized I'd been doing everything wrong. I was only searching at night, I spent one day putting up small flyers and didn’t really search as much.
The hardest thing for me to do was take the food and cat litter from outside since it was such common advice on Facebook, but you pointed the fact out about it attracting other cats made sense (I saw 4 other cats in the span of two night checking out the area). So I took everything back inside last night to hopefully clear the area.
I’m in an apartment surrounded by abandoned houses so I figured he was in a crawl space of the one behind my house. I sometimes let him and Scooter, my other cat, out to get some fresh air. I used your book advice to think back on their habits for clues, and remembered that Garfield would always go right towards the stairs and Scooter would always go left to the next apartment.
So I went right and down the stairs, straight back to the abandoned house there. After Searching the crawl spaces around my apartment I went to examine the perimeter of the abandoned house.
Right as I came around the bushes I saw Garfield walking right out in the open!
I stopped and opened some food and called to him. He meowed at me but was skittish and ran back under the house.
I definitely was a little bit too eager. I figured I needed to calm down a bit so I went back up to my apartment for a second to let him settle since I saw where he ran. Then I went back out there and kind of hung out for 10 minutes calmly TALKING to him and called my dad on the phone just so Garfield would hear me casually talking.
Then I brought the food and treats over to the opening of under the house and he literally came out after 5 seconds and meowed and started licking my hands! Once he was fully out from under the house I picked him up!
I don’t think I would have searched the way I did if I hadn’t have read your book and watched your informational video!
It was tough going from feeling defeated to starting over with new hope, but you really kept me going!
