Indoor Cat only - 6 years old, Male, 8lbs, orange, no patches

Have there been any sightings of your cat? No

I ws driving approx 40 mph on Lime Kiln (coming home from vet).

Cat was not in carrier and escaped through the rear driver side window through a window that I didn't know he could push open (broken latch on window).  When I heard the window thumping, I turned around and he was gone.  I stopped the car and couldn't find him, so I panicked and drove back the way I came to see if I could find him.  Didn't see any sign of him on the road, so in a panic drove home so my boyfriend could search the car, because I figured he was hiding somewhere.  I am unsure of the exact location where this occured, it could be anywhere on about a mile stretch of Lime Kiln.  Has been hospitalized off and on for over a month

Was your cat wearing a collar? No

Was this cat recently injured, ill, or under the current care of a veterinarian?  Yes, had been at the vet for 2 days because of vomiting.  He has been in treatment for kidney disease and heart problems since December.

Have you seen or heard coyotes or heard about sightings in your area?  Yes

Are you aware of any other predators in the area that might kill a cat?  Yes

Did this cat disappear near dusk or dawn? About 3am

WHAT MEASURES HAVE YOU TAKEN TO LOOK FOR YOUR LOST CAT?  Been combing the area he was lost as much as possible to try to spot him, using flashlisghts and stopping every few feet and calling him loudly.  Doing this on both sides of the road.  Also, stupidly starting on Monday night trying to leave a scent trail with belongings from home.  I have removed a lot of the stuff, but some of it I can't get to.  I only trailed about a half mile on one side of the road, and it was possibly an area before where he was lost, but I'm not certain.  Also yesterday, walked from my house down to the area he got lost, was hoping to leave a trail of my scent to home (it's about 5 miles from the site to home).

DESCRIBE WHAT YOU THINK MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED TO YOUR MISSING CAT:

I am hoping he is hiding out and waiting until the right time to jump in our car when we arrive each night.  I am hoping he is well aware of our presence in the area since we have been visiting the site often.  I am hoping either that or he found a nearby residence that had shelter or other cats and is there.  It's just hard to say since there's SO much rural terrain out here. I think it's a better possibility that he got injured and hid somewhere and won't/can't come out, or a predator got him.  I'm also worried that I made things worse with the food and the belongings we left.

Okay, so the people at the house you predicted when you came out to search for our cat called me me on a Thursday night saying they were pretty sure they found my cat and even mentioned the shaved stomach. I was skeptical since it just seemed too good to be true - I went over their place that night at about 10pm.

The husband said that their 2 year old daughter said "We have a new cat" and shortly after they spotted him in the house - he tried to pick him up and apparently got clawed up really bad. He scurried away somewhere and they couldn't locate him.

That night I walked around the house for about 30 minutes calling his name.  Sure enough, I heard a tiny little meow as I was passing by the couch. We lifted the couch and I could not believe my eyes but it was him!  He was super skinny and it was hard to get over my disbelief and convince myself it was him!!

I dragged him out from under the couch but he started freaking out when I attempted to put him in the cat carrier and ran away and hid somewhere in the house. I looked for him for about an hour, but it was getting late so we decided I'd come back the next day. At that point since I knew we'd located him, I wasn't too worried about not being able to capture him right away..I knew that he knew I was looking for him and was safe in their house, so was confident it'd be just a matte of time before we could lure him out of hiding.

I returned the next afternoon and he was eventually found upstairs in a closet in their bedroom. Tona was able to wrangle him into the carrier and we took him straight to the vet.

He was skinny but seemed fairly okay - I could also not believe it when they said he'd improved a little bit at the vet!  I was certain that even if we found him that his kidney disease would have progressed!!  He had fleas but no major problems! He stayed at the vet for 2 nights for monitoring.

Oh man when we brought him home, you could tell he was SO happy to be back!!  He slept for almost a week straight. Another good thing is that he eats a lot more than he used to since he got sick! Before he was lost his appetite wasn't that great but he really eats a lot more now! I'm guessing that it's since he's experienced starvation!

I'm sure there's more to tell but I'm at work and wanted to send off a quick reply before any more time passed since I'm sure you've been wondering what happened - I had been meaning to reply long ago (and was still planning to, soon!) but things have been super hectic and I also just started working again.

And I definitely still plan to write that review!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been my list of things to do and I will for sure get that written in the next few weeks or so.
